This material is a practice exercise sheet to help you understand the use of é (is/are), está (is/are), and e (and). There are 20 questions, and three questions are answered for reference.

In Portuguese, é is the SER(To be) verb conjugation with Ele,(He), Ela(She), and Você (You –formal) in the present tense. The verb ésta is the ESTAR(To be) verb conjugation with Ele,(He), Ela(She), and Você (You –formal) in the present tense. And, e, is a linking word that links to sentences that mean 'and.' In the exercise, identify the correct place for these three different words. Remember, the SER and ESTAR verbs both translate to 'to be' verbs in English, but their usage is contextual. Generally, we use the SER verb for the permanent situation, habit, birthplace, age, and time; we use the ESTAR verb for temporary situations.
